Actor Byeon Woo Seok’s airport security incident has ended with fines for both the bodyguard involved and the private security company, sparking conversations about how stars and agencies should act in public spaces.

On October 2, the Incheon District Court ruled that a bodyguard and their company violated the Security Services Act while escorting Byeon Woo Seok through Incheon International Airport last year.

They were fined 1 million won each for going beyond their authority, which included controlling the gate, shining flashlights at nearby passengers, and even checking boarding passes.

Judge Shin Heung Ho stated, “Shining lights at passengers counts as an act of physical force, and this does not fall within the scope of security duties.”

He added that Byeon Woo Seok did not avoid the public eye and instead carried out his schedule openly “as if holding a fan meeting,” criticizing how the situation was handled.

Following the ruling, Professor Seo Kyung Duk shared his opinion, calling it “a good precedent for Hallyu stars and their agencies.”

He emphasized that celebrities must avoid actions that inconvenience ordinary citizens in public places, saying, “As K-content continues to spread globally, it is very important for Hallyu stars to maintain basic etiquette in public spaces.”
