KeyEast, the former agency of actor Ji Soo, has been confirmed to pay around 880 million won in compensation to the production company of the KBS drama “River Where the Moon Rises”.
According to legal sources on July 6, KeyEast submitted a withdrawal of appeal to the Supreme Court on June 24. Because of this, the second trial ruling has now been finalized.
The court ordered KeyEast to pay more than 880 million won, along with delayed interest, to Canvas N, the production company formerly known as Victory Contents.
The case began after Ji Soo became involved in school violence allegations in March 2021. At the time, he was appearing as the male lead On Dal in “River Where the Moon Rises”, and the drama had already aired up to episode 6.
Ji Soo’s side later admitted to some parts of the claims, and he voluntarily left the drama. Since filming had already been completed up to episode 18 out of 20 episodes, the production team had to quickly cast Na In Woo as the new male lead and re film many scenes.
Na In Woo began appearing from episode 7, and he also re filmed the earlier episodes that had originally featured Ji Soo. The VOD versions were also edited to reflect the change.
The production company later filed a damages lawsuit against KeyEast, asking for 3 billion won in additional production costs caused by the re filming. In the first trial, KeyEast was ordered to pay more than 1.42 billion won. However, the amount was later reduced to more than 880 million won in the appeal trial.
With KeyEast withdrawing its Supreme Court appeal, the 880 million won compensation ruling has now been finalized.
