IU and Byeon Woo Seok’s “Perfect Crown” Blu-ray release gets canceled after paid pre orders were already accepted
The planned Blu-ray release for MBC’s “Perfect Crown”, starring IU and Byeon Woo Seok, has officially been canceled.
On June 15, the Blu-ray promotion team for the Friday Saturday drama announced through its official fan cafe and social media that the release would no longer move forward.
The Blu-ray had previously accepted paid pre-orders from May 8 to 18, even while the drama was facing controversy over historical distortion claims. The product was priced at 259,800 won and was expected to be sold through Yes24.
After the cancellation was announced, reactions were divided between Korean netizens and international fans.
Some Korean netizens criticized the fact that the Blu-ray project had continued despite the controversy, leaving comments such as, “They were still trying to push this forward? Where is their conscience?” “It is shocking that they tried to continue after all that happened,” and “Only now?”
However, many overseas fans expressed disappointment over the cancellation. Some wrote, “Make the Blu-ray. This is the least they can do for the people who supported ‘Perfect Crown’”, “Please make it for international fans”, and “Please release the Blu-ray”.
“Perfect Crown” previously faced backlash over historical distortion claims. The production team, as well as lead actors IU and Byeon Woo Seok, later issued public apologies.
