Byeon Woo Seok is gaining attention for his unexpected variety show charm in Netflix’s “Yoo Jae Suk Camp.”
“Yoo Jae Suk Camp,” also known as “Yoo Camp,” is a camping variety show led by Yoo Jae Suk, with Lee Kwang Soo, Byeon Woo Seok, and Ji Ye Eun joining as staff members. The show follows the cast as they spend time with guests and create a fun break from everyday life.
After its release, “Yoo Camp” quickly became a hit. It reached No. 1 on Netflix’s “Today’s Top 10 Series in Korea” just two days after release and has stayed near the top. The show also ranked No. 1 in Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore, while entering the Top 10 in eight major Asian countries.

Byeon Woo Seok also ranked No. 1 in the TV OTT integrated non drama cast buzz category for the fourth week of May, showing how much attention he brought to the program.
The production team shared that Byeon Woo Seok’s charm was even stronger than expected. Lee So Min PD said they cast him after “Lovely Runner” ended and first saw him as someone with a boyish charm. However, after meeting him in person, she said her first impression was that he was “honest.”
Writer Yoon Shin Hye also praised his refreshing image, saying, “Byeon Woo Seok’s very presence has a refreshing feeling that represents youth.” She explained that this was one of the reasons they wanted him on the show.

However, what surprised the team most was his clumsy and innocent side. Yoon Shin Hye said, “He also had a surprising clumsy charm,” adding that the show naturally became even more like “Byeon Woo Seok Camp.”
Lee So Min PD also shared, “While filming ‘Yoo Camp,’ I wondered, ‘Why is he so clumsy?’” She added that this became another real charm of Byeon Woo Seok. She described him as gentle, hardworking, and someone who tried to find fun even when filming was tiring.
The team also praised his chemistry with Lee Kwang Soo, calling them the “door frame brothers” because of their similar tall height. Lee So Min PD said she expected Byeon Woo Seok to match well with Lee Kwang Soo and Ji Ye Eun, and was happy that their soft and funny chemistry came out naturally.

The producers also revealed that Byeon Woo Seok joined the show partly because of his trust in Yoo Jae Suk. Since this was his first fixed variety program, he was reportedly nervous about being filmed for long hours. Still, the team believes Yoo Jae Suk helped give him courage.
One funny behind the scenes story was that Byeon Woo Seok thought “Yoo Camp” would be a healing show. Lee So Min PD said, “No one ever told Byeon Woo Seok that ‘Yoo Camp’ was a ‘healing camp.’ He came thinking that on his own.” Despite this, he became deeply immersed and showed many honest reactions on camera.

After the show was released, Byeon Woo Seok reportedly contacted the production team to thank them. Lee So Min PD said he told them that “Yoo Camp” really became his own healing camp and that he had so much fun he did not know how time passed.
Writer Yoon Shin Hye also shared that Byeon Woo Seok was nervous about games and even secretly practiced variety show games beforehand. However, he still made mistakes on set because he was too nervous. After filming, he told the team, “I got the multiplication table wrong because I was too nervous.”
The production team said “Yoo Camp” worked because of Yoo Jae Suk, but they also admitted that they would like to try “Byeon Woo Seok Camp” someday, along with other possible spin off ideas for Lee Kwang Soo and Ji Ye Eun.
