WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon revealed how he once helped BOYNEXTDOOR leader Myung Jaehyun during a difficult period when the younger idol was at risk of being dropped as a trainee.
During the October 16 broadcast of SBS PowerFM’s *Cultwo Show*, Kang Seung Yoon spoke about his tendency to give advice to younger artists, even when they do not directly ask for it.
He then recalled giving Myung Jaehyun personal guidance while Jaehyun was still training under YG Entertainment.
Kang Seung Yoon explained that Jaehyun had been heavily criticized during a monthly trainee evaluation.
He said, *“He got scolded a lot during the monthly evaluation. I thought there were some things I could help him with, so right after it ended, I talked to him about several things.”*
Kang Seung Yoon played down his role, adding, *“I don’t think I was that much help.”*
However, the hosts pointed out that Jaehyun had previously spoken about that period and said Kang Seung Yoon’s guidance helped him get through a time when his trainee position was uncertain.
When someone jokingly called Kang Seung Yoon *“the person who basically made his debut possible,”* the WINNER member quickly denied taking that much credit.
He responded, *“That’s absolutely not true. He debuted at a company run by a hyung who looks like me.”*
The comment was made in a playful tone, referring to Zico, whose KOZ Entertainment later debuted Myung Jaehyun as a member of BOYNEXTDOOR.
Myung Jaehyun has previously shared more details about what happened during his YG trainee days.
He said, *“I was at risk of being dropped if I didn’t show a big change within three months, but he practiced with me and sang together with me.”*
Jaehyun added, *“I wasn’t dropped at that time, and I was able to continue training for more than another year and a half.”*
Although Kang Seung Yoon stressed that he was not responsible for Jaehyun’s eventual debut, his advice appears to have helped the future BOYNEXTDOOR leader continue his trainee career during one of its most uncertain moments.
