Jang Seung Jo is making a special appearance in SBS’s hit medical drama Doctor X: Mafia in White, where he will emerge as a new challenger to Kim Ji Won’s character.
Ahead of episode 3 on October 16, the production team confirmed that Jang Seung Jo will play Na Dae Il, a newly appointed surgery professor at Guseo University Hospital.
Na Dae Il is also a former military doctor who served for an extended period, bringing a different background and approach into the hospital.
His arrival is expected to put him directly at odds with genius surgeon Kye Soo Jung, played by Kim Ji Won, creating a new rivalry as the drama moves forward.
New stills released ahead of the episode show Jang Seung Jo’s character appearing relaxed but difficult to read. Another image shows him shaking hands with Jang Hee Sook, played by Lee Jung Eun, hinting at tension surrounding his arrival without revealing major plot details.
Jang Seung Jo joins the drama while Doctor X: Mafia in White is already showing strong results in South Korea and overseas.
According to Nielsen Korea, the drama opened with an 11.4% nationwide rating before climbing to 14.9% for episode 2. The figure already surpassed the 11.8% peak rating recorded by its SBS Friday-Saturday predecessor, *Flex X Cop 2*.
The series has also gained international attention on Netflix. According to Netflix’s official Tudum rankings for October 5 to 11, Doctor X: Mafia in White reached No. 1 on the Global Top 10 Non-English TV chart just three days after its premiere, recording 4.6 million views and entering the Top 10 in 36 countries.
With Jang Seung Jo now entering the story as a new rival for Kim Ji Won’s Kye Soo Jung, Doctor X: Mafia in White is adding another major character as its early ratings and global momentum continue.
