Singer Sung Si Kyung has spoken up after his agency faced allegations of operating without proper registration for years.
On September 16, his agency SK Jaewon addressed the issue, explaining, “Our company was established in February 2011 under the law at that time. Then in January 2014, the Act on the Development of the Pop Culture and Arts Industry was enacted, which required registration as a pop culture arts business.”
They admitted, “We were not aware of this duty, and because of that, the registration process was not completed. We deeply apologize for our lack of awareness and preparation. Once we recognized the problem, we immediately began the registration process and are working to complete it quickly to fully comply with the law.”
The agency added, “We sincerely apologize for causing concern. From now on, we will strictly follow the law and operate with greater responsibility.”
SK Jaewon, founded by Sung Si Kyung’s older sister in 2011, has not been listed as a registered pop culture arts business according to records.
By law, companies that manage singers, actors, models, and entertainers must register as pop culture arts businesses. Without registration, such operations are considered illegal and may face fines or imprisonment.
