The director of Netflix’s hit animation KPop Demon Hunters, Maggie Kang, revealed a surprising behind-the-scenes story about Huntrix member Rumi.
On September 11, a new video was uploaded to YouTube channel MMTG Civilization Express, where Maggie Kang opened up about how Rumi was once considered for a solo debut.
She shared, “I said no. I was like, ‘Isn’t a group better? Isn’t it more fun?’ When there are three characters, you can tell stories about friendship and sisterhood. That felt really important to me.”

Host Jae Jae agreed, praising her insight: “Those three are a perfect triangle. One of the biggest traits of K-pop idols is their relationships."
He added, "Without that relationship, such a huge fandom culture wouldn’t have been possible. You really know the taste. You know idols, you know fandom, and you know flavor.”
They also noted how Huntrix reflects Maggie Kang’s creative ideas, saying she wanted to break away from the typical “tough and sexy” heroine image.

Instead, she added real and even silly details, such as bare faces, dark circles, pale lips, and even burping, to make the characters more relatable.
Kang revealed that she and her staff even acted out scenes themselves to guide animators: “Some even wore wigs and filmed references like mummies,” she laughed.
Fans are now loving this peek into how Huntrix was shaped, with many thankful that Rumi didn’t end up as a solo character, making the trio dynamic even more special.
