Yves opens up about solo struggles after LOONA: “It was really hard, people said my music was too non-mainstream”

Former LOONA member Yves is officially back—and she's getting honest about the tough road she walked to become a solo artist.

In a recent interview held at a café in Yongsan, Seoul, Yves sat down to talk about her brand new third EP “Soft Error,” which drops on August 7 at noon on all major music platforms. This marks her first comeback in seven months, following the release of her deluxe EP “I Did: Bloom” earlier this year.

“I’m back with my third album after 7 months,” she said. “I’m really thankful to the fans who waited for me. I tried a new genre this time, and I hope many people listen with interest.”

Her new EP Soft Error features 6 tracks, including the double title songs “White Cat” and “Soap” (featuring PinkPantheress). Other tracks like “Aibo” (feat. Bratty), “Do You Feel It Like I Touch,” “Study,” and “Mom” capture various emotions she’s gone through, layered with electronic sounds and dreamy vibes.

The meaning behind Soft Error hits close to home.

“It’s about something that looks fine on the outside but is broken on the inside,” Yves explained. “It was really hard when I started my solo journey. I had so many worries. I didn’t want to hide that, so I expressed it honestly through this album. I think I just wanted to tell my story.”

She opened up further about the emotional pressure of going solo after LOONA’s disbandment and the many opinions thrown her way.

“When I started solo work, I often felt lost,” she said. “Even when choosing a company, people told me things like, ‘You need to go this way to succeed,’ or ‘You should be in a group,’ or ‘Your music is too non-mainstream.’ All of that mixed with my own doubts. It was confusing.”

Despite the struggles, Yves has decided to stay true to herself.

“Now I’ve learned to accept that confusion,” she said with a smile. “Walking a path that’s not fixed actually feels fun to me now, and I’m enjoying it.”

Yves’s newest project shows a more raw and personal side of her, and fans are excited to hear the unique sounds and stories she's ready to share.
