BLACKPINK’s Lisa has opened up about the pressure she faced while pursuing solo activities during the group’s break.
On September 9, a trailer for Lisa’s upcoming documentary Always LALISA was released through LLOUD’s official YouTube channel. The preview follows Lisa from her childhood dreams of becoming a singer to her present-day career.
While looking back on nearly a decade with BLACKPINK, Lisa spoke warmly about her fellow members.
“It’s been 10 years with BLACKPINK,” she said, adding, “Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé are my soulmates.”
Lisa then reflected on the group’s decision to take time for individual activities.
“We decided to take a year off. One year is really short. What should I do first?” she recalled thinking.
During that period, Lisa took on several major projects, including solo music activities and an acting role in the HBO series The White Lotus. However, she admitted that handling so many opportunities also came with considerable pressure.
“I really didn’t have time to rest,” Lisa said. “It was hard because there was a lot of pressure.”
She explained that people around her encouraged her not to push herself too far, telling her, “You don’t have to work this hard.” Lisa, however, responded, “No. I can do it.”
Despite the challenges, Lisa said the experience became part of her effort to discover what she can achieve on her own.
“I want to see what else I can accomplish,” she said. “I’m finding myself. A new version of me.”
The documentary is also expected to explore other pressures Lisa has faced throughout her career, including the intense public attention that can come with being a K-pop star.
Directed by Sue Kim, Always LALISA is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11. It is also set for a worldwide theatrical and IMAX release on October 12, with a release through YouTube Premium planned as well.
