2AM’s Jo Kwon opened up about a difficult period in his life and revealed how actress Kim Hye Soo supported him while both of his parents were undergoing cancer treatment.

During a September 8 appearance on the YouTube program New Woman, Jo Kwon recalled becoming close with Kim Hye Soo after they worked together on the 2013 drama The Queen of Office.

He shared that their friendship continued long after the drama ended, with Kim Hye Soo regularly attending his musical performances and encouraging him.

Jo Kwon said, “Whenever she comes, she tells me, ‘Honey, you did so well.’”

He then spoke about the particularly difficult period when he was serving in the military. According to Jo Kwon, his mother was diagnosed with melanoma and underwent a toe amputation, while his father was treated for rectal cancer and underwent four surgeries.

“When I was in the military, my mother had cancer and my father also had cancer,” he recalled, adding that Kim Hye Soo helped him during that time.

Jo Kwon explained that the situation was especially challenging because he is an only child and wanted to care for his parents. At the same time, he was unable to work while serving in the military and was also dealing with uncertainty surrounding his contract and career.

He said Kim Hye Soo knew about what he was going through and offered meaningful support.

“She knew I was having a difficult time and told me she just wanted me to stay healthy and finish my military service safely. She helped me a lot with the things I was struggling with,” Jo Kwon shared.

While Jo Kwon did not provide specific details about the assistance, he expressed gratitude for Kim Hye Soo’s support during one of the hardest periods of his life.

Their friendship, which began through The Queen of Office, has continued for years, with Jo Kwon describing Kim Hye Soo as someone who has consistently encouraged him both personally and professionally.
