Baskin-Robbins is facing criticism after it was revealed that the brand used IVE member Jang Wonyoung’s catchphrase “Lucky Vicky” in a new product without her permission or offering an apology.
On November 8th, Baskin-Robbins launched a new ice cream called “Lucky Vicky Mochi,” shaped like a four-leaf clover. The product sparked controversy due to the use of the phrase “Lucky Vicky,” which is closely associated with Jang Wonyoung.
The phrase “Lucky Vicky” was created by Jang Wonyoung, combining her English name "Vicky" with the word "lucky." She often used it while interacting with fans, and the phrase became a symbol of her positive outlook on life, known as "Wonyoung-style thinking." It quickly spread beyond her fanbase and became a popular catchphrase.
However, it was later revealed that Baskin-Robbins neither contacted Jang Wonyoung nor received her approval to use the phrase. This led to an outcry from IVE's fans, who criticized the brand for using the phrase without consent.
The product was removed from sale the following day, November 9th, likely due to the public backlash. However, Baskin-Robbins has not issued any apology or statement regarding the situation, which has fueled further criticism for exploiting the popularity of a famous idol.
Meanwhile, IVE continues to gain attention with their recent collaboration track “Supernova Love” with international producer and DJ David Guetta.
