• Yoo Seung Ho talks about transforming for gay role in 'Newsroom': "I struggled with physical intimacy"

Actor Yoo Seung Ho opened up about preparing for his role in the play "Angels in America."

On August 4th, Yoo Seung Ho was a guest on JTBC's "Newsroom" to discuss his latest project.

Yoo Seung Ho shared that he wanted to challenge himself with something new, which led him to try theater for the first time. He said, "I felt like I wasn’t making progress and wanted to explore new things. I was drawn to theater and wanted to follow my instincts."

Playing a character from the LGBTQ+ community, Yoo Seung Ho explained, "I wore a lot of bracelets, necklaces, and even painted my nails. The character is very flamboyant. While the inner aspect of the role is important, the visual aspect is crucial too, so I did things I wouldn’t normally do."

He continued, "The play covers topics like homosexuality, racism, and religion, which were new to me. I watched many movies about these subjects. Since my character has AIDS, I lost 5-6kg. I worked hard in various ways. Performing intimate scenes with a male partner was challenging. I had to show affection, which was tough, but my co-actor and I worked hard to make it feel real."

As he marks his 25th year in the industry, Yoo Seung Ho reflected, "I believe every day is important. What I’ve done is in the past, and I want to ensure my past isn’t something to be ashamed of. Today matters."

He added, "In my mid-to-late 20s, I began enjoying expressing lives I hadn’t lived through acting. I’ve found a deeper interest in it."

Yoo Seung Ho also talked about his dream of running an animal shelter. He said, "I need a lot of money for that, so I plan to save while acting. I want to run an animal shelter."

He concluded, "As long as there are projects that want me, I will keep acting. Until then, I will continue to grow and think deeply as Yoo Seung Ho."

On the May 1st episode of KBS 2TV’s variety show Problem Child in House, Lee Jun Young appeared alongside co-star Jung Eun Ji to promote their new KBS drama Pump Up the Healthy Love.

During the show, Lee Jun Young was asked about the most unforgettable villain he’s played. He chose his role as Han Su Gang in the film Brave Citizen.

The hosts were surprised, pointing out how kind and gentle he seems in real life. Lee Jun Young shared how he transforms for such roles.

“I try to act as bad as I can, but sometimes the director says, ‘You still look too nice.’ Then I focus even harder and adjust right away.”

“In one scene, there’s a grandma selling gimbap, and I ad-libbed by stubbing a cigarette out on the gimbap. I was really into character, but after filming, I just broke down. So many thoughts came to me and I started crying.”
