MBC’s A Bona Fide Killer delivered one of its most tense endings yet as Gong Hyo Jin, Jung Joon Won, and Lee Sang Yi’s characters were brought together by a dangerous situation that ended with a single gunshot.
Episode 9, which aired on August 28, recorded a nationwide household rating of 9.0% and 8.7% in the Seoul metropolitan area, according to Nielsen Korea. The final sequence pushed the episode to a peak rating of 11.4%.
The episode also briefly revealed more about Kwon Tae Sung’s past and why he suddenly stopped investigating the mysterious assassin known as Kingfisher. Years earlier, Sergei threatened him and warned that continuing the investigation could put his family in danger.
Sergei told Tae Sung, “You’d better stop being interested in Kingfisher. If you break your promise, your family could be in danger.”
That history added more tension to Tae Sung’s relationship with his wife, Yoo Bo Na, as he continued learning about the parts of her past that had been hidden from him.
Despite Sergei’s attempts to provoke him, Tae Sung responded, “What matters isn’t the past, but the present.”
Meanwhile, Lee Dong Jin, played by Lee Sang Yi, was forced to confront painful memories after encountering Jang Eun Hak, the man connected to the deaths of his parents. Their storyline eventually crossed paths with Bo Na and Tae Sung during the episode’s final moments.
Without revealing exactly what happened, the ending showed Dong Jin caught in an emotional confrontation while Bo Na prepared to act from a nearby rooftop and Tae Sung arrived at the scene.
Then, a single gunshot was heard.
The cliffhanger left the fate of the characters unclear while sending the episode’s rating to its 11.4% peak, setting up an even more tense continuation in episode 10 of A Bona Fide Killer.
