RESCENE’s Minami drew attention after revealing that English was actually more comfortable for her than Japanese when she was young, highlighting her experience learning multiple languages.

Minami recently appeared through a phone call on the YouTube program Secret Guarantee, where Song Eun Yi contacted her while discussing ways to help children learn a new language naturally.

During the conversation, Minami first spoke about how she has started to feel RESCENE’s growing popularity.

She said, “A lot of people recognize me now and tell me, ‘I’m enjoying your songs’ or ‘I’m watching your videos.’ That’s when I really feel it.”

The discussion then turned to Minami’s Korean skills. She explained that she has now been living in Korea for about five years, but said she was far from fluent when she first arrived.

Minami shared, “When I first came, I couldn’t speak this well. I mostly communicated through gestures.”

She then surprised the hosts by revealing that English had once been more natural for her than Japanese.

Minami explained, “When I was young, English was more comfortable for me than Japanese. But I had to attend a private school, so that was when I first started learning Japanese properly, and I kept using it from then on.”

She added that her English skills today are mainly focused on listening and everyday conversation.

Based on her own language-learning experience, Minami also offered simple advice for people trying to become more comfortable with another language.

She recommended having as many conversations as possible and learning a small number of useful words each day.

Minami said, “Even 10 words a day is fine. Write them down before going to sleep, practice until they feel natural, and then try using them in real conversations.”

She also suggested using language-learning apps and safely communicating with other people as another way to build confidence.

Minami’s comments gave fans a closer look at her multilingual background, showing how she gradually became comfortable with Japanese, Korean, and English through different stages of her life.
