Psy has been sent to the prosecution over allegations related to prescription sleeping pills.
According to reports, Seoul Seodaemun Police Station sent a total of six people to the prosecution without detention on May 29 for alleged violations of the Medical Service Act.
The group reportedly includes Psy, three medical staff members from a university hospital in Seoul, and two company employees.
Psy is suspected of receiving prescriptions for psychotropic medication from a university hospital in Seoul from 2022 until last year without in person medical treatment. He is also suspected of having a third party, including his manager, pick up the medication on his behalf.
The prescribed medicine is said to be used for sleep disorders and depression. Under current medical law, prescriptions for this type of medicine must be received by the patient who was directly examined.
On June 2, P Nation addressed the case and stated, “The police investigation into the alleged violation of the Medical Service Act related to having sleeping pills picked up by someone else has ended.” The agency added, “We will actively cooperate with the prosecution’s investigation going forward.”
Earlier, after the allegations became known, Psy’s side apologized and admitted fault for the pickup issue. The agency said, “Having sleeping pills, which are prescription medicine, picked up by someone else was clearly a mistake and a lapse in judgment.”
However, Psy’s side maintained that the singer took the medication according to a medical prescription and claimed there was no proxy prescription.
