Singer Roy Kim recently opened up about the struggles and unforgettable experiences he faced while serving in the Marines.

During his guest appearance on the YouTube show Psick Show by Psick University on October 19, Roy Kim talked about his decision to enlist and what it was really like serving in one of Korea’s toughest military branches.

Roy Kim shared, “It was on my bucket list for a long time. My closest friends and I promised to enlist in the Marines when we turned 20. But that was around the time I joined Superstar K, so my friends went first, and I had to delay my enlistment. When it was finally my turn, I naturally chose the Marines.”

When asked if he ever regretted joining, he said honestly, “No. It would’ve been hard no matter if I joined the Army, Air Force, or Navy. I wouldn’t call it regret, but there were some really tough things I experienced for the first time in my life.”

He also recalled a memorable and lighthearted moment during his service. “Since I enlisted late, there was a sergeant talking to his girlfriend on the phone. He told her, ‘Roy Kim is right in front of me. Sing something!’ Some people might’ve regretted being in that situation, but I just took the phone and sang ‘Bom Bom Bom.’ That was actually one of my proudest moments,” he laughed.

Roy Kim first rose to fame after winning Superstar K4 in 2012 and became known for hits like Bom Bom Bom, The Hardest Part, and Suddenly. He enlisted in the Marines in 2020 at the age of 27 and was discharged in 2022.
