K-pop has scored another massive win as the Netflix film K-Pop Demon Hunters sees its soundtrack song Golden rise to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

According to Billboard’s preview for the August 16 Hot 100 chart (local time) on the 11th, Golden claimed the #1 spot after holding #2 for two weeks, finally beating Alex Warren’s Ordinary.

The track recorded 31.7 million streams — a 9% increase from last week — along with 8.4 million in radio airplay audience and 7,000 in sales. This follows its earlier achievement of topping the UK Official Singles Chart Top 100.

Golden’s climb has been steady and impressive. It debuted at #81, then jumped to #23, broke into the top 10 at #6, rose to #4, and then #2 before finally claiming the top spot. It also ranked #1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US charts during the same period.

This is a historic achievement, as K-Pop Demon Hunters has become the first virtual artist project to reach the Hot 100’s top 10 in 16 years — the last being Hannah Montana in 2009. In the movie, Golden is performed by the fictional girl group Huntrix, with real vocals by Korean-American artists EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami.

Released on June 20, K-Pop Demon Hunters is an action fantasy animation that follows K-pop superstars Lumi, Mira, and Joi, who secretly work as heroes protecting the world while living glamorous lives on stage.

Fans are calling Golden “the ultimate K-pop anthem of the year,” with many saying it’s proof that K-pop’s influence continues to dominate global music charts.
