The song “Golden” from the Netflix animated movie K-Pop Demon Hunters has made K-pop history by topping the UK Official Singles Chart — something no other K-pop song has done in over a decade!

On August 1, the UK Official Charts Company confirmed that Golden reached No.1 on the Official Singles Chart Top 100. The track rose three spots from the previous week and finally claimed the top spot in its sixth week on the chart.

The Official Charts stated, “K-Pop Demon Hunters has taken over. Huntress’s ‘Golden’ is the first K-pop song in 13 years to top the UK Official Chart.” They also pointed out that the last time a K-pop song hit No.1 in the UK was back in 2012, with none other than PSY’s viral hit “Gangnam Style.”

This makes Golden the second K-pop song ever to reach No.1 on the UK chart—an achievement that shows just how far K-pop has come globally.

It doesn’t stop there. Golden also placed No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (chart dated August 2), showing its massive global popularity.

Even more impressively, this is the first time in three years that a song from an animated movie has reached No.1 in the UK. The last one was “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Disney’s Encanto in 2022.

So, who’s behind this record-breaking track? Golden is performed by Huntress, a fictional K-pop girl group featured in K-Pop Demon Hunters. The vocals were brought to life by real-life artists — former SM Entertainment trainee and songwriter Lee Jae (EJAE), Korean-American singer Audrey Nuna, and rising star Ray Ami.

The movie K-Pop Demon Hunters is an animated action-fantasy film that follows top K-pop idols Rumi, Mira, and Joy, who live double lives as demon hunters saving the world behind the scenes of their music careers.

With Golden dominating charts across the globe, fans are calling this the start of a new era where K-pop idols — real or fictional — are taking over in unexpected and exciting ways!
