Even The Wall Street Journal couldn’t ignore the global hype around KPop Demon Hunters.

On July 20, the major U.S. newspaper published an article titled “The Biggest K-Pop Band to Top the Charts Isn’t Even Real,” spotlighting the surprising popularity of two fictional K-pop groups — Saja Boys and Huntrix — from Netflix’s animated film K-pop Demon Hunters.

According to the Wall Street Journal, “Two songs from the K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack became the most-streamed tracks on Spotify” and added ,“This is a record not even BTS or BLACKPINK has achieved.”

The voices behind these virtual idols also got attention. Kevin Woo, former U-KISS member who voices Mystery from Saja Boys, told the outlet, “Playing a fictional character feels surreal.”

K-pop Demon Hunters, which dropped on Netflix on June 20, is an action-fantasy animation that follows superstar idols Rumi, Mira, and Joy, who secretly fight evil demons while living glamorous lives as top K-pop idols.

Since its release, the movie has taken over the world — hitting Netflix’s TOP 10 in over 90 countries and ranking #1 in more than 40 of them.

Looks like even fictional idols can break real records!
