• Jung Joon Won opens up about being called mismatched with Go Yoon Jung and how he really felt about harsh appearance comments

Jung Joon Won has spoken up after facing visual comparison comments while acting alongside Go Yoon Jung.

On May 20, Jung Joon Won sat down for an interview in Gangnam, Seoul, where he talked about his role in the hit tvN drama Resident Playbook. The drama recently wrapped up with strong ratings and positive viewer responses.

Jung Joon Won played Koo Do Won, a 4th-year OB-GYN resident who falls in love with Oh Yi Young, played by Go Yoon Jung. The drama is a spin-off of the popular Hospital Playlist series and focuses on the personal growth of young doctors.

Even though the series didn’t center around romance, fans were drawn to the love line between Koo Do Won and Oh Yi Young — especially as it gained popularity over time. The drama started with 3.7% in viewership and ended at a strong 8.1%, according to Nielsen Korea.

Looking back, Jung Joon Won said, “I honestly didn’t think this much attention would come our way. Since it wasn’t mainly a romance drama, I was surprised. I’m just very thankful.”

He also opened up about how the show had originally been delayed due to a medical strike. “We were a bit disappointed at first,” he said, “but the production team told us it would eventually air. That gave us the strength to wait.”

Since the filming had happened a year earlier, Jung Joon Won admitted he’d forgotten some scenes. “When the episodes started airing, my memories of the acting came back. There were scenes I had regrets about that turned out better than I thought, and others I had high hopes for but felt lacking. Still, I loved the finished drama.”

He shared that the chemistry between cast members came naturally thanks to the director’s efforts. “The director arranged a lot of meetups before filming to help us get close. I’m older than most of the cast, but I didn’t act like a senior. I just wanted to be easy to talk to.”

Jung Joon Won especially praised Go Yoon Jung, saying, “Working with her was great. She’s passionate about acting and surprised me with her energy. I think our scenes stood out because of her. I learned a lot from her even though she’s younger.”

At first, some netizens felt that the two actors didn’t visually match as a couple. Jung Joon Won addressed this, saying, “Go Yoon Jung is just on another level. She’s like a goddess. There’s only so much I can do, so I went on a diet and visited the dermatologist.”

He laughed and added, “I tried my best. That’s what I could do.”

Jung Joon Won’s favorite scene was a romantic moment at the playground. “That’s where Koo Do Won really opened his heart to Yi Young. The weather was perfect that day. I liked it so much, I rewatched that scene over and over.”

Despite the initial criticism, the “Oh-Koo couple” eventually won over viewers, and Jung Joon Won feels grateful for all the love the drama received.

  • TWICE’s Sana confesses she and Momo secretly planned to fly home but couldn’t because of one shocking reason

TWICE's Sana shared a funny but honest story about the time she thought about secretly flying home with fellow member Momo.

On the May 20 episode of SBS’s variety show Whenever We Get a Chance, TWICE’s Jihyo and Sana appeared as special guests. The two idols brought laughter with their stories and bright energy.

Jihyo and Sana joined hosts Yoo Jae Seok and Yoo Yeon Seok as “gap friends” for the show. Jihyo mentioned seeing Yoo Jae Seok at concerts before, saying, “We always run into each other at concerts. You even go to other idols’ shows!” Yoo Jae Seok laughed, confirming, “That’s true.”

Yoo Yeon Seok revealed it was his first time meeting the two TWICE members. But Jihyo surprised him by saying, “I’ve actually seen you before. A long time ago at a birthday party.” Yoo Yeon Seok smiled and recalled, “Oh, Seulong’s birthday party, right?” Yoo Jae Seok joked, “Jihyo really knows everyone. She’s a social butterfly.”

When Yoo Yeon Seok asked how Sana got her start, she explained, “I was cast and got invited to audition. After the audition, the company called my parents and asked, ‘Would you let your daughter go to Korea?’ At first, they said yes. But once we got home, they were unsure and said, ‘Maybe you shouldn’t go.’”

Sana also talked about how she wasn’t close with Jihyo back then. “Jihyo was close to debuting and even had separate lessons,” she said. “I couldn’t really talk to her because I didn’t speak Korean well.” Jihyo agreed, saying, “We couldn’t even have a conversation in the beginning.”

Sana then shared a moment that made everyone laugh. “There was a time I thought about secretly going home at dawn,” she said. “I even thought about how to quietly pull my suitcase out. But the company had our passports. I would’ve had to break in and get them, so it didn’t work out. If I could have, I would’ve left. Momo and I planned to go together.”

Fans praised the idols for their honesty and humor, showing once again why TWICE is so loved by many.
