SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi has suffered a serious knee injury while serving in the South Korean military and will undergo surgery after being diagnosed with a complete anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, tear.
On September 12, Hoshi personally shared the news with fans through a communication platform, explaining that he injured his knee while practicing with the Army performance team.
“I’m carefully writing this because the news may surprise you a little. I injured my knee while practicing with the Ground Forces performance team, and after an examination, I was diagnosed with a complete ACL tear,” Hoshi said.
Following the diagnosis, Hoshi is expected to focus on treatment and recovery after surgery.
Because of the injury, he will no longer participate in previously scheduled appearances with the Army Taekwondo Demonstration Team and the Ground Forces Festival.
Hoshi expressed disappointment because he had been preparing for the performances and was looking forward to meeting fans through the events.
“These were stages I had really been waiting for and looking forward to, so I prepared very hard. I’m very disappointed that I can’t participate, and I also feel sorry toward the fans who were waiting,” he shared.
He also asked fans to continue supporting the Taekwondo Demonstration Team as well as fellow SEVENTEEN member Woozi, who is participating with the Ground Forces performance team.
“Although I won’t be able to join them, please give lots of support to the Taekwondo Demonstration Team and the Ground Forces performance team that Jihoon [Woozi] is participating in,” Hoshi added.
Hoshi enlisted as an active duty soldier in September 2025 and is currently serving as a sergeant with the Army Taekwondo Demonstration Team.
He is scheduled to be discharged from military service on March 15, 2027. For now, his priority will be recovering from the ACL injury following surgery.
