SBS’s Friday Saturday drama “My Royal Nemesis” continued its strong run as Lim Ji Yeon and Heo Nam Joon’s characters finally moved toward a mutual romance.
Episode 7, which aired on May 29, showed a major shift between Shin Seo Ri, also known as Kang Dan Sim, played by Lim Ji Yeon, and Cha Se Gye, also known as Lee Hyeon, played by Heo Nam Joon. After their sudden first kiss in Jeju Island, Seo Ri began to face the feelings she had been trying to avoid.
The episode recorded a nationwide rating of 9.4 percent and peaked at 10.7 percent, ranking No. 1 in its time slot. It also became the highest rated miniseries of the week. The drama’s 2049 target rating reached an average of 3.4 percent and peaked at 4.29 percent, setting a new personal best.
In the episode, Seo Ri tried to push Se Gye away despite her growing feelings. She told him, “Do not do anything for me,” and added, “I no longer want to use you as a shield.” She also hurt him on purpose by saying, “Even if I ever need a man, it will never be you.”
However, Se Gye continued to protect Seo Ri even when he was facing a public crisis. After a rumor accused him of being involved in a drunk driving and hit and run incident in Jeju Island, his staff suggested bringing Seo Ri forward to explain the situation. Se Gye refused and said, “We must stop that woman from being exposed no matter what.”
Seo Ri’s feelings finally changed after she saw Se Gye’s birthday gift. Remembering her words that she hated dark and closed off places, he prepared a brighter path to her rooftop room. His card read, “I hope your night shines a little brighter than yesterday,” making Seo Ri realize that she no longer wanted to be alone.
Seo Ri then ran to protect Se Gye and appeared in front of reporters at the BIOJ building. She told him, “I came to protect you. I also want to try anything, anything for you.” When reporters tried to film her, Se Gye used his suit to shield her.
The episode ended with Seo Ri holding Se Gye’s hand first and confessing, “Even if I am ruined or broken, it is okay if I am with you.” Her answer to Se Gye’s message, “It really shines, because I am with you,” marked the beginning of their full mutual romance.
Episode 8 of “My Royal Nemesis” airs on May 30 at 9:50 PM.
