JTBC’s weekend drama 'We Are All Trying Here' is gaining strong attention for the emotional bond between Koo Kyo Hwan and Go Youn Jung’s characters.
According to Netflix’s official Tudum site, the drama ranked No. 1 on Korea’s Top 10 shows list for the week of April 20 to April 26, based on viewing hours. The strong ranking shows how viewers are connecting with the drama’s healing story, not just its popularity.
In the drama, Koo Kyo Hwan plays Hwang Dong Man, a man who spends every day fighting anxiety. He keeps talking because silence makes him hear a voice telling him, “You have no value.”
Even when he tries to laugh and act cheerful around people, his emotion watch still shows feelings like “anxiety” and “boredom.”
His struggles become clearer after he receives harsh words from Choi Film CEO Choi Dong Hyun, played by Choi Won Young.
After that, Dong Man feels a deep hunger that seems to come from a dream he has not been able to reach for 20 years. More than anything, he wants to feel safe and peaceful.
Go Youn Jung plays Byun Eun Ah, a woman who gets nosebleeds when she is under extreme stress. Her emotion watch calls her feelings “unknown,” but underneath are emotions like anger, despair, frustration, sadness, and desperation.
Her pain began when her mother left her, making the word “mother” feel heavy and strange to her.
However, when Eun Ah is with Dong Man, her pain slowly eases. The drama shows how the two begin to comfort each other by sharing their weakest moments.
For Dong Man, Eun Ah may become the first person to give him a “green light” and real peace. For Eun Ah, Dong Man becomes someone who gives her a sense of relief.
Viewers are especially drawn to their “healing” connection, as the two characters slowly become each other’s safety and comfort while facing their own wounds.
'We Are All Trying Here' airs every Saturday at 10:40 PM and Sunday at 10:30 PM on JTBC.
