Netflix’s upcoming mystery thriller Mousetrap has revealed new character stills of Ryu Jun Yeol, Seol Kyung Gu, and Lee Kyu Hyung ahead of its August 28 premiere.
Inspired by the Korean folktale about a field mouse that eats a person’s fingernails and takes over their identity, the series follows novelist Moon Jae, whose name, face, and entire life are stolen by a mysterious figure known as Mousetrap.
Ryu Jun Yeol plays Moon Jae, a reclusive writer whose quiet life suddenly falls apart. The newly released stills show him confused and distressed as he begins searching for the truth behind the person who has taken everything from him.
Speaking about his performance, Ryu Jun Yeol said, “I tried to make the character more convincing by carefully controlling the intensity of his emotions in every situation.”
Seol Kyung Gu stars as No Ja, a private lender who becomes involved in Moon Jae’s unusual case while attempting to recover missing money. His character is shown holding a metal bat and chasing someone, suggesting that he will use any method necessary to achieve his goal.
Director Kim Hong Sun praised Seol Kyung Gu, calling him “an outstanding actor who perfectly fits the character of No Ja.”
Ryu Jun Yeol also shared his admiration for his co-star, saying, “It was a great honor to watch him express emotions that cannot easily be explained through words.”
Lee Kyu Hyung plays detective Soon Yong, who begins investigating the mystery surrounding Moon Jae. The actor explained, “His driving force comes from questioning why he is connected to the case and from his persistent personality that pushes him to investigate it until the end.”
Lee Kyu Hyung reportedly lost around 10 kilograms to create the detective’s rough and sharp appearance.
With its unusual folklore-inspired story and tense pursuit between the three central characters, Mousetrap will premiere on Netflix on August 28.
