Actor Yoo Yeon Seok’s agency has released an official statement after his tax appeal was reportedly rejected.
According to reports on August 4, the Tax Tribunal dismissed Yoo Yeon Seok’s appeal against a tax assessment issued by the National Tax Service.
Yoo Yeon Seok previously carried out his activities through Forever Entertainment, a one-person agency he established. Tax authorities reportedly determined that the company did not provide substantial support for his entertainment activities and initially imposed more than 6 billion won in taxes.
Following a review before taxation, the amount was adjusted to around 3 billion won. Yoo Yeon Seok paid the revised amount and later filed an appeal with the Tax Tribunal.
After the appeal was rejected, his current agency, King Kong by Starship, explained that the matter involved a difference in how tax law was interpreted and applied.
The agency stated, “This matter arose from differing views regarding the interpretation and application of tax law, and the related procedures have not yet been fully completed.”
It continued, “We are carefully reviewing the facts and legal issues and will respond sincerely to any necessary matters through the procedures provided under the relevant laws.”
The agency added, “Yoo Yeon Seok has faithfully fulfilled his tax obligations, and he will continue to approach the remaining procedures with a responsible attitude.”
Further legal action may be considered as the case continues, but no final outcome beyond the tribunal’s decision has been announced.
