Heo Sung Tae has raised expectations for his powerful villain role in Netflix’s upcoming romantic comedy Our Sticky Love.
During the drama’s press conference on August 5, the actor spoke about playing Baek Sang Gil, the leader of a criminal organization.
Heo Sung Tae described the character as the most ruthless role of his career so far.
He said, “He may be the most vicious character I have ever played. Among my past roles, he also appears to have the highest social position.”
Despite the character’s dark behavior, the actor explained that Baek Sang Gil also has a strong presence and an interesting personal story.
He added, “He has some impressive qualities despite the contrast, so I found him to be a compelling villain and wanted to play him. He is the worst. Jang Deok Su from ‘Squid Game’ cannot even be compared to him.”
Heo Sung Tae also shared that he had mainly played kind or humorous characters during the past three years. Returning to a darker role reminded him of the intense performances for which he became known.
He said, “At one point during filming, blood suddenly splashed, and I thought, ‘Yes, this is what it felt like.’ From that moment, my energy rose.”
The actor stressed that the role is only acting, but admitted that he shares some of the character’s determination.
He explained, “I do not like losing, and I have a strong desire to reach my goals, so our personalities may be similar in that way. The people around me also helped a lot, allowing me to complete filming safely.”
Our Sticky Love follows prosecutor Go Eun Sae, played by Ha Young, who loses her memory and begins living with boxing coach Jang Tae Ha, played by Jung Hae In, after he claims to be her boyfriend.
The series will premiere on Netflix on August 7.
