The weekend drama race is getting more intense as IU, Shin Hye Sun, and Go Youn Jung lead three very different shows.

MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama 'Perfect Crown' is currently No. 1 among weekend dramas. The series, starring IU and Byeon Woo Seok, started with a strong 7.8 percent rating for episode 1.

It passed the 10 percent mark by episode 4 and recently reached a new personal best of 11.2 percent with episode 6.

The drama has continued to attract attention thanks to IU and Byeon Woo Seok’s popularity, its royal family and chaebol setting, and its romantic scenes.

With the story now past the halfway point, viewers are watching to see if the drama can rise even higher in the coming episodes.

However, tvN’s new weekend drama Secret Audit has now joined the competition.

Filing for Love, starring Shin Hye Sun and Gong Myung, premiered on April 25 with a 4.4 percent rating and quickly jumped to 6.3 percent with episode 2.

The drama follows a charismatic audit team leader with a secret and an audit office ace who gets reassigned to handle workplace misconduct cases.

The drama is drawing attention for its unusual office audit theme and the comedic acting of Shin Hye Sun and Gong Myung.

Since Filing for Love airs during an overlapping time slot with 'Perfect Crown' on Saturdays, many are now watching to see whether it will slow down IU’s drama or if 'Perfect Crown' will keep rising.

SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama 'Phantom Lawyer', starring Yoo Yeon Seok, will end this week with episodes 15 and 16.

The drama once reached a high of 10 percent with episode 6, but dropped back to single digits after 'Perfect Crown' began airing. Still, it has stayed in the 6 percent range from episodes 9 to 13 and is expected to end steadily.

Its follow-up drama, 'My Royal Nemesis', starring Lim Ji Yeon and Heo Nam Joon, will enter the weekend drama race next week.

The drama is expected to focus on the tense chemistry between an unknown actress who changes after being possessed by the spirit of a notorious Joseon-era villainess and a harsh chaebol heir.

Meanwhile, JTBC’s Saturday-Sunday drama 'We Are All Trying Here', starring Koo Kyo Hwan and Go Youn Jung, is receiving mixed reactions.

Its TV ratings remain low in the 2 percent range, but it is performing better on streaming, ranking No. 2 on Netflix Korea’s Top 10 series list as of April 28 at 11 AM KST.

The drama is different from other weekend shows because it does not focus on a big case or a typical romance.

Some viewers say it has a high entry barrier, but others praise Park Hae Young’s thoughtful writing and the realistic acting of Koo Kyo Hwan and Go Youn Jung.

Although its ratings only rose slightly from 2.2 percent in episode 1 to 2.4 percent in episode 4, the drama is gaining word of mouth online.

Viewers are now watching to see if the buzz can turn into stronger ratings in the coming weeks.
