Kim Hye Yoon returns with high hopes after 'Lovely Runner', but 'No Tail to Tell' faces disappointing ratings until the end

SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama No Tail to Tell is heading into its final week with disappointing ratings, despite high expectations for lead actress Kim Hye Yoon.

The fantasy romance series, which also stars Lomon, drew attention early on as Kim Hye Yoon’s first drama comeback in one year and eight months following the massive success of Lovely Runner.

Many viewers were eager to see what project she would choose next after cementing her place as one of the top actresses in her twenties.

At the drama’s press conference, Kim Hye Yoon shared, “Whenever I act, I try to show a different side from what I showed before. This character has a flashy style and a different charm from Sol in Lovely Runner. I thought I could show clear differences”.

Her transformation into a bold and playful Gen Z gumiho raised anticipation before the premiere. However, the excitement did not translate into strong viewership.

According to Nielsen Korea, No Tail to Tell premiered with 3.7% ratings. In comparison, its predecessor Taxi Driver 3 ended with a powerful 13.3% nationwide rating.

Many expected the new series to benefit from the momentum of SBS’s previous hit, but the numbers quickly fell short of expectations.

From episodes 2 through 8, the drama remained in the 2% range, briefly touching 3% only once. It also faced tough competition from The Judge Returns on MBC and Undercover Miss Hong on tvN, losing ground in both ratings and buzz.

After The Judge Returns concluded and a Lunar New Year broadcast break passed, episode 9 saw a temporary rise to 4.2%, nearly doubling its previous numbers.

For a moment, it seemed the show might regain momentum. However, episode 10 dropped again, leaving the drama with an overall modest performance.

Even when compared to other recent SBS Friday-Saturday dramas, the results remain underwhelming. Last year’s lineup generally maintained stronger numbers, and even lower performing titles managed to avoid staying in the 2% range for most of their run.

With only the final episode left to air on the 28th, attention is now focused on whether No Tail to Tell can wrap up its story in a satisfying way.

While the ratings battle may not have gone in its favor, viewers are watching closely to see if the drama can at least end on a meaningful note.
