Byeon Woo Seok opened up about the difficult choices he made before becoming a successful actor.

On the Netflix variety show Jae Seok’s B&B Rules!, released on May 26, Byeon Woo Seok and Lee Kwang Soo had an honest talk with a guest actor who was going through a break in his career.

The guest asked them how they handled long waiting periods when there was no work and no confirmed next role, asking if they had any personal advice.

Byeon Woo Seok answered honestly, saying, “It really is difficult.” He continued, “I made a choice,” explaining that the entertainment industry is full of talented people.

He said, “There are so many talented people in this field,” and added, “I thought the way to win against them was to focus more deeply”.

Byeon Woo Seok then shared that his family was going through financial hardship during his early years. He revealed, “When I was young, we had quite a lot of debt. Even though I had no money, I actually reduced the time I spent on part time jobs.”

He explained why he made that decision, saying, “I thought that if the money coming in every month became fixed, there would be moments when a person could become lazy. I did that even though I was actually in the negative.”

The actor had also spoken about his family’s financial struggles during his appearance on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block in May 2024. At the time, he shared, “My parents had quite a lot of debt. There were times when we lived apart because of financial problems at home.”

He added that despite the hardship, his parents continued to support him. Byeon Woo Seok later earned money from a major modeling job and used it to pay off his parents’ debt.

He recalled the emotional moment, saying, “Their expressions at that time cannot be explained in words. It was the first time I had ever seen that expression on my parents’ faces”.

Byeon Woo Seok’s story drew attention as he honestly shared how he chose to focus on acting, even when he was facing financial pressure.
