Sibling duo AKMU members Lee Chan Hyuk and Suhyun are officially leaving YG Entertainment after 12 years, marking the end of a long and successful partnership.
On November 21, YG shared an official statement revealing, “About six months ago, YG’s Chief Producer Yang Hyun Seok visited the home of AKMU members Lee Chan Hyuk and Suhyun to have dinner together. ”
They added, “They shared a meal prepared by the members and talked about happy memories from the 12 years since they first met on the 2012 audition program K-pop Star Season 2. They also had an honest conversation about the issues AKMU is currently thinking about.”
The statement continued, “AKMU’s main concern was whether to continue working with YG, with whom they have shared so much for the past 12 years, or to try new challenges independently.”
They added, “Chief Yang encouraged them to explore music activities in a new environment outside of YG, offering his sincere support. Knowing AKMU’s tendency to always seek new paths, his encouragement helped them decide to take on a new challenge after careful consideration.”
AKMU first joined YG after winning SBS K-pop Star Season 2 in 2013. They released their first full album in 2014, including hits like 200% and Give Love, and over the past 12 years, they have delivered countless hit songs, earning love and recognition as one of Korea’s most beloved sibling duos.
YG added, “Even until the very end, AKMU members said, ‘We are forever YG family,’ and promised they would come running whenever we call. They wrote heartfelt letters to Chief Yang and even performed deep bows to show their gratitude for his support throughout their careers.”
With this farewell, AKMU is ready to embark on a new chapter while keeping their bond with YG strong, proving that even as they move forward independently, they remain part of the YG family.
