Mu Jin Sung is drawing attention for showing noticeably different sides of his acting through MBC’s A Bona fide Killer and Netflix’s new thriller Mousetrap.
In Mousetrap, which released all of its episodes on August 28, Mu Jin Sung plays accountant Son Soo Hyun, a close friend of novelist Moon Jae, played by Ryu Jun Yeol.
The Netflix series follows Moon Jae after a mysterious figure known as “Mousetrap” takes over his name, face, and life. As the characters search for the truth, Soo Hyun becomes an important part of the mystery because of his close connection to Moon Jae and his involvement in events from their past.
Mu Jin Sung portrays Soo Hyun as a difficult character to read. He initially appears calm and dependable, helping Moon Jae handle matters outside his home, but subtle changes in his expressions and tone suggest that he may be hiding more than he reveals.
As pressure surrounding the character grows, Mu Jin Sung gradually shifts Soo Hyun from a composed figure into someone increasingly affected by anxiety and fear. Rather than relying on exaggerated reactions, he uses restrained expressions and changes in his gaze to show the character becoming more unsettled.
His role in Mousetrap contrasts sharply with his current character in MBC’s A Bona fide Killer.
In the drama, Mu Jin Sung plays Ki Young Do, an employee at Durumi Electronics who also happens to be a highly skilled hacker. He supports Yoo Bona, played by Gong Hyo Jin, with his technical abilities and information while also showing a warmer and more humorous personality.
Ki Young Do is usually calm and capable during missions, but his feelings around Yoo Bona occasionally reveal a softer and more awkward side. These lighter moments give the character a very different energy from the tense and secretive Soo Hyun in Mousetrap.
The two roles highlight Mu Jin Sung’s ability to move between contrasting characters at the same time. In Mousetrap, he creates tension as someone whose intentions remain difficult to understand, while in A Bona fide Killer, he balances professionalism, comedy, and emotional vulnerability.
Mu Jin Sung has previously appeared in projects including Birthcare Center, Strangers Again, The Tyrant, Typhoon Family, Monthly Boyfriend, and the film Perhaps Love.
He also gained attention for playing villain Pyo Hyun Joon in Typhoon Family, where his character frequently clashed with Lee Jun Ho’s Kang Tae Poong.
With Mousetrap and A Bona fide Killer now showing two very different sides of him at the same time, Mu Jin Sung continues to expand his range across television and streaming projects.
