Girls’ Generation’s Yoona is once again proving her versatility as an actress, showing fans a side they’ve never seen before.
Recently, Yoona sat down for an interview in Seoul to talk about her new movie The Devil Moved In (directed by Lee Sang Geun). The comedy tells the story of Gil Goo (Ahn Bo Hyun), an unemployed man who ends up with a strange part-time job watching over Seon Ji (YoonA), a woman who turns into a devil every night.
Yoona shared,

“Since this was the same director I worked with on Exit, I had really good memories and wanted to work with him again. From the first time I read the script, it felt fresh and strange, so I immediately said yes. I trusted the director and just fell into the character.”
In the film, Yoona plays two sides of Seon Ji — her ordinary self during the day and her devil-possessed self at night. From being carried on someone’s back to diving into the Han River, YoonA challenged herself with intense scenes. She recalled,
“I really jumped into the Han River from Wonhyo Bridge. It was our last scene, so I only had one chance. I practiced a lot beforehand, and when it came time, I just did it.”

While the role may feel like a sharp contrast to her “deer-like” image in Girls’ Generation, Yoona has already shown her range in movies like Confidential Assignment and Exit. This time, expectations are higher than ever for her transformation.
When asked which side of Seon Ji she relates to more, Yoona explained,
“Every character I play has a part of me in it. When I’m more outgoing, that’s similar to night Seon Ji, but I don’t usually make extreme facial expressions like her.”
Yoona also recently celebrated Girls’ Generation’s 18th anniversary with her members. All but Sunny attended the VIP premiere of The Devil Moved In to support her. She said,
“I think many Girls’ Generation members wanted to come. Since a lot of us act too, sometimes I couldn’t go when they invited me. But this time, many members said they could make it.”
She also shared the story behind their viral group photo, which was tied to Tiffany’s birthday.
“Tiffany unnie’s birthday is August 1, just a few days before our debut anniversary. So whenever we gather for her birthday, we take a commemorative photo too. This time Tiffany hosted the party. I almost couldn’t go because of filming, but luckily my schedule was delayed.”
Looking ahead, Yoona said she hopes the group can do something special for their 20th anniversary, though nothing is officially planned yet.
“We don’t usually make specific plans, but we did joke about what we could do. If possible, I really hope we can celebrate together.”
Meanwhile, The Devil Moved In, starring Yoona and Ahn Bo Hyun, is now showing in theaters.
