Kim Ji Won’s highly anticipated medical drama Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia has officially confirmed its premiere date for October 9 on SBS.

The new Friday-Saturday drama follows Gye Soo Jung, a brilliant surgeon known for her exceptional skills and refusal to compromise. Sent to Guseo University Hospital through a doctor staffing agency, she begins challenging the corruption and unfair hierarchy inside the medical system.

Kim Ji Won will lead the drama as Gye Soo Jung, a surgeon nicknamed the “mad dog of the operating room” because of her fearless personality and impressive surgical ability. The character is expected to show both a strong presence inside the hospital and a different side outside of work.

Lee Jung Eun stars as Jang Hee Sook, the head of the doctor staffing agency that sends Gye Soo Jung to the hospital. Although she may appear focused on money, she is described as a clever strategist who often handles the problems created by Soo Jung.

Son Hyun Joo plays Boo Seung Kwon, the head of a branch of Guseo University Hospital who is working to rebuild the struggling medical institution.

Kim Woo Seok also joins the cast as Park Tae Kyung, a privileged but enthusiastic medical intern whose comfortable hospital life begins to change after meeting Gye Soo Jung.

SBS also released photos from the drama’s first script reading, featuring the main cast alongside Lee Jin Hee, Kim Young Min, Lee Sung Wook, Kwon Seung Woo, Heo Joon Seok, Choi Deok Moon, Kim Jung Young, Kim Young Ah, and Choi Kwang Il.

The production team said, “Even though it was their first time working together, the actors’ strong performances and engaging characters created an immersive script reading.”

They added that viewers can look forward to the chemistry between the cast as the drama introduces a new medical dark hero story.

Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia is directed by Lee Jung Rim, whose previous works include VIP and Revenant. The drama is scheduled to premiere on SBS on October 9.
