Hong Jin Kyung opens up about her unexpected divorce and close bond with ex-husband.
On August 6, Hong Jin Kyung shared her honest thoughts about her divorce, revealing there's no bad blood between her and her ex-husband.
In a new video on Jung Sun Hee’s YouTube channel ‘House-Leaving Jung Sun Hee’, the longtime entertainer spoke openly about her separation after nearly three decades with her ex.
“I only knew Rael’s dad for about 27 or 28 years”, Hong Jin Kyung said. “People might wonder, ‘Why did you separate then?’ But it wasn’t because someone made a big mistake. We just wanted to live a little differently.”
She explained that even though they parted ways, their relationship took on a new and warmer form.

“After we broke up and became like strangers, real friendship started,” she said. “He used to be someone I trusted a lot when we were dating, and now, he’s just a really good oppa.”
Jung Sun Hee jokingly asked if they were planning to get back together, saying, “If you do, I won’t let it slide.”
Laughing, Hong Jin Kyung replied, “He still comes to the house often, and our families still meet. I didn’t even realize how cool my mom and mother-in-law were, but they meet up often and eat together.”
When asked if there was a moment where she knew the relationship couldn’t continue, Hong Jin Kyung answered honestly, “It wasn’t that someone did something terribly wrong. The biggest reason was that we no longer had that ‘something.’"

She added, "Some people might ask, ‘Then should everyone get divorced?’ But this was just our own decision. That part of our relationship became difficult.”
She also revealed why she stayed silent about the divorce until now.
“My mother-in-law asked us to wait until Rael was older before we made it public,” she said. “That’s why I couldn’t say anything earlier.”
She added, “Actually, a lot of reporters already knew. But we couldn’t keep it a secret forever. Rael’s dad also told me, ‘Go ahead and share it now,’ so we decided to finally make it public.”
Despite their divorce, Hong Jin Kyung made it clear that she and her ex-husband remain on good terms, showing a mature and respectful side to co-parenting and moving forward.
