(G)I-DLE's Yuqi Sparks Controversy with Controversial Remarks on Chinese Variety Show

(G)I-DLE's Chinese member, Yuqi, has found herself embroiled in a heated controversy after her recent appearance on a Chinese variety show.

On July 17th, an interview video featuring Yuqi and Minnie from (G)I-DLE was uploaded to Zhejiang Satellite TV's official YouTube channel.

In the interview, the show's producer (PD) asked Yuqi and Minnie to convey a message to their Chinese fans.

Yuqi took the opportunity to express her plans, stating, "I plan to visit Hong Kong after Taiwan this time." She added with a smile, "I want to give a little surprise. If there's time, I ask for your continued interest."

However, these comments quickly ignited a controversy due to their implications regarding Taiwan's status.

Yuqi's remarks seemed to align with the "One China" policy, which asserts that mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, and other regions are inseparable and that the legitimate government of China is the People's Republic of China.

In response, Taiwanese fans expressed disappointment and discontent with Yuqi's comments.

Some fans also highlighted the lack of consideration shown towards (G)I-DLE member Shuhua, who is of Taiwanese nationality.

The controversy has sparked discussions about the sensitivity surrounding political issues and the responsibility of celebrities when making public statements that touch upon geopolitical matters.

Meanwhile, on July 14th, (G)I-DLE made their debut in the United States with their first digital single titled "I DO." The group has also embarked on their second world tour, aiming to connect with their international fanbase and bring their music to global audiences.

  • Lee Jun Young says he felt guilty and cried after acting mean to a grandma in 'Brave Citizen'

Lee Jun Young recently opened up about the emotional toll of playing a villain—and how one powerful scene made him break down in tears behind the scenes.

On the May 1st episode of KBS 2TV’s variety show Problem Child in House, Lee Jun Young appeared alongside co-star Jung Eun Ji to promote their new KBS drama Pump Up the Healthy Love.

During the show, Lee Jun Young was asked about the most unforgettable villain he’s played. He chose his role as Han Su Gang in the film Brave Citizen.

He explained, “It was really tough to film. I had to act like I was leading school violence, and there was even a scene where I bullied a grandmother.”

The hosts were surprised, pointing out how kind and gentle he seems in real life. Lee Jun Young shared how he transforms for such roles.

“I try to act as bad as I can, but sometimes the director says, ‘You still look too nice.’ Then I focus even harder and adjust right away.”

He also revealed that filming one particular scene hit him hard emotionally. “My real grandmother was sick at the time,” he said.

“In one scene, there’s a grandma selling gimbap, and I ad-libbed by stubbing a cigarette out on the gimbap. I was really into character, but after filming, I just broke down. So many thoughts came to me and I started crying.”

Fans praised his dedication to acting but also felt moved by how deeply the role affected him. Lee Jun Young’s honesty gave a raw look at how even fictional roles can hit close to home.
