Ji Chang Wook is preparing to show a sweeter side of himself in the upcoming romance drama Merry Berry Love.
Set to premiere on October 7, Merry Berry Love follows Lee Yoo Bin, played by Ji Chang Wook, a Korean spatial planner whose career faces difficulties, and Shirahama Karin, a Japanese female farmer played by Mio Imada. Their lives cross on a beautiful island, where an unexpected romance begins to develop.
The project marks the first co production between CJ ENM and Japanese broadcaster Nippon TV.
New stills released on September 14 offer a first look at Ji Chang Wook’s transformation into Yoo Bin. One image shows him focused on his work while carefully examining architectural plans, highlighting his character’s serious and perfectionist personality.
Another still presents a very different side of Yoo Bin as he enters a strawberry farm. Surrounded by the countryside, Ji Chang Wook wears a warm smile, teasing the softer romantic side of the character that viewers will see after he meets Karin.
Ji Chang Wook revealed that the character immediately caught his attention when he first received the script.
“When I received the script, I felt that the character suited me well while also being someone viewers could easily relate to. His passion for his work is also something I felt was similar to me. I felt excited and looked forward to it throughout the entire time I was reading the script,” he said.
The actor also described Merry Berry Love as a bright and charming project, adding that the atmosphere during filming reflected the drama’s lighthearted tone.
“Merry Berry Love is a bright, cheerful, and lovely project, so there was always laughter on set,” Ji Chang Wook shared.
He also asked viewers to watch how Yoo Bin changes after meeting Karin and how their relationship helps him grow.
The production team said Ji Chang Wook was chosen because of his ability to bring depth to romantic roles while maintaining a strong screen presence. They also teased that the drama will reveal sides of the actor that audiences may not have seen before.
With its island setting, strawberry farm romance, and Korean Japanese collaboration, Merry Berry Love is drawing attention as Ji Chang Wook prepares for another romantic role when the drama premieres on October 7.
