BLACKPINK’s Lisa has opened up about the difficult experiences she faced before becoming a global star, including a leaked trainee video controversy and serious threats made against her.

In her upcoming documentary Always Lalisa, Lisa revealed the challenges she went through during her trainee days at YG Entertainment, including the backlash surrounding a past video where she was seen using a racially insensitive expression.

The documentary, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before its theatrical release, reportedly covers the controversy involving leaked footage from Lisa’s trainee period.

The video surfaced ahead of her first solo performance at Coachella in 2025 and became linked to what was described as the “YG leaker” incident.

According to reports, the person responsible for the leak allegedly made threats against Lisa, adding further stress during a time when she was preparing for her important solo stage.

Lisa explained that she wanted to personally address the situation with her team, but the matter was difficult to handle publicly at the time.

Reflecting on the past controversy, Lisa apologized for using the offensive term and said she did not fully understand its meaning when she was younger.

“I think it is something I really have to apologize for,” Lisa said. “I’m Thai and I grew up in Thailand. At that time, I didn’t have the opportunity to learn about those things, so I didn’t know what it meant.”

She added, “But now I have learned and educated myself. I will never do something like that again. It was not right.”

Lisa also shared how emotionally difficult the leak was, especially because it happened before her highly anticipated solo performance.

“Everything was real. I just wanted to focus on the performance, but many things happened that I couldn’t control,” she said. “I was sad, but I eventually overcame it.”

Lisa debuted as a member of BLACKPINK in 2016 and went on to become one of the most recognized K-pop artists worldwide. She continues group activities with YG Entertainment while managing her solo career through her own label, LLOUD, expanding her work as a solo artist and actress.
