Actress Go Ah Sung has shared a surprising realization while celebrating the 20th anniversary of her debut film The Host, revealing that she is now older than her former co-stars Bae Doona and Park Hae Il were when they filmed the movie.
On November 3, Go Ah Sung appeared in a YouTube video titled Talking About Books Is Just an Excuse | Chatting With My Friend of 12 Years, Go Ah Sung, alongside actor Park Jung Min.
During their conversation, Go Ah Sung reflected on her 22-year acting career and recalled making her film debut in the 2006 hit movie The Host.
She shared, "I was in my first year of middle school when I filmed The Host."
Park Jung Min responded casually, "I was in the military. I watched it while I was serving," making them laugh about their different experiences at the time.
When asked whether she remembered filming the movie, Go Ah Sung admitted that some memories felt distant.
"I remember it, but sometimes I wonder if those are memories I've created in my mind. It feels like a strange sense of déjà vu," she explained.
To celebrate the film's 20th anniversary, Go Ah Sung decided to arrange a private screening because she wanted to experience the movie in a theater again.
She said, "I wanted to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Host. I thought about what I could do and decided I wanted to watch it in a theater again."
After looking into the rental process, she successfully arranged a screening and watched the film with two close female companions.
"It was really meaningful," she recalled.
However, the biggest surprise came when she realized how much time had passed since the movie was released.
While watching herself alongside Bae Doona, Park Hae Il, Song Kang Ho, and the late Byun Hee Bong, Go Ah Sung noticed something unexpected.
"What really surprised me was realizing that I've already passed the ages of my aunt and uncle in the movie. Bae Doona and Park Hae Il were only 27 and 29 years old," she said with a laugh.
In The Host, Bae Doona and Park Hae Il played the aunt and uncle of Go Ah Sung's character.
Now, two decades later, the actress has grown older than they were during the film's production, making the anniversary an especially memorable moment for her.
Go Ah Sung's reflection highlighted how quickly time has passed since her early acting days and how meaningful The Host remains to her career.
