Yoo Yeon Seok reveals he went six months without filming before Han Suk Kyu helped him through a career slump

Actor Yoo Yeon Seok has opened up about a difficult period in his acting career, revealing that he spent around six months without filming after a planned project unexpectedly fell through.

On October 30, Yoo Yeon Seok appeared on Jo Jung Suk's YouTube channel, Channel Jo Jung Suk, where the two actors discussed their careers and memorable experiences in the entertainment industry.

During their conversation, Jo Jung Suk brought up Yoo Yeon Seok's hit drama Dr. Romantic, which ended with an impressive viewership rating of 27.1%.

However, Yoo Yeon Seok gave much of the credit for the drama's success to his senior co-star Han Suk Kyu.

"I think that was really because Han Suk Kyu was there," he said.

Yoo Yeon Seok then revealed that he had been going through a difficult time shortly before joining the drama.

"I really learned a lot. Just before that, I was going through something like a slump," he shared.

Explaining what happened, the actor revealed that a project he had been preparing to join was suddenly canceled for him due to casting changes.

"A project I was supposed to join suddenly fell through, so I ended up taking a break from filming for about six months. Then I received an offer for Dr. Romantic," he explained.

Although the unexpected break had left him feeling uncertain about his career, joining Dr. Romantic gave him the opportunity to work with Han Suk Kyu, whom he greatly admired.

Yoo Yeon Seok shared that the veteran actor became an important source of guidance during filming.

"I learned so much from Han Suk Kyu. I learned a lot on set, and he often gave us advice and encouraging words," he said.

He also recalled having great chemistry with Seo Hyun Jin, who starred alongside him in the medical drama.

"I worked really well with Seo Hyun Jin, so I have many good memories from that time. That's why I was really looking forward to working with her again in Liar," he shared.

The two actors have reunited in MBC's new psychological thriller Liar, bringing them together again years after their collaboration in Dr. Romantic.

Meanwhile, Jo Jung Suk also shared a positive memory of meeting Han Suk Kyu for the first time while filming Jealousy Incarnate.

He recalled that Han Suk Kyu recognized him and warmly greeted him, leaving a lasting impression.

Yoo Yeon Seok's story highlighted how an unexpected six-month break eventually led him to one of his most memorable projects.
