SBS's Friday-Saturday drama Doctor X: The Age of the White Mafia, starring Kim Ji Won, has drawn attention for its portrayal of a medical strike and the difficult choices doctors face when patients need urgent treatment.

The October 31 episode explored the conflict between doctors' professional concerns and their responsibility to save lives, raising questions about what should come first during a medical crisis.

In the episode, Kim Ji Won's character, Gye Soo Jung, stepped in to perform a difficult surgery that had been affected by a resident doctors' strike.

Her decision led to a tense conversation with Professor Do Yoon Sik, played by Kim Young Min, who explained why doctors sometimes struggle with the possibility of failure.

Do Yoon Sik said, "Professor Bae, the director, and I have all failed as doctors before. That's why doctors sometimes break down or even go on strike. The fear of failure is great because the consequences can be terrible."

He also questioned whether any doctor could confidently promise never to make a mistake.

However, Gye Soo Jung challenged his reasoning and pointed out what she believed was the biggest difference between them.

"Do you know the biggest difference between us, Professor Do Yoon Sik? I perform surgery myself because I don't want to fail, while you avoid performing it because you don't want to fail," she replied.

She added, "We try not to fail because failure is not an option."

Her words highlighted the episode's central conflict, showing two different ways doctors respond to the pressure of making life-or-death decisions.

After watching Gye Soo Jung perform the surgery, Do Yoon Sik began questioning his own position.

Speaking with Professor Bae Heung Gon, played by Lee Sung Wook, he said, "Did we fail? There was no one to take on that difficult surgery in such a large operating room, so she had to go in alone."

He then admitted, "For the first time, she didn't look like someone obsessed with surgery. She looked like someone obsessed with saving lives."

The experience also made him reflect on the strike, saying that it suddenly felt less meaningful compared with what he had witnessed.

Meanwhile, Bae Heung Gon maintained that he supported the strike but expressed regret that younger doctors were missing important opportunities to learn from difficult medical situations.

Through these conversations, Doctor X presented different perspectives on the resident doctors' strike without completely dismissing the concerns of those participating.

Rather than focusing only on the dispute, the episode raised a broader question about medical responsibility, professional fear, and the importance of patient care.

Kim Ji Won's character became the center of that discussion, with her actions prompting other doctors to reconsider their decisions.

The October 31 episode showed how Doctor X: The Age of the White Mafia continues to address challenging medical issues through its characters and their conflicting beliefs, leaving viewers with questions about the responsibilities doctors carry during a crisis.
