KBS2's romance drama A Love Other Than Yours, starring Seo Kang Joon and Ahn Eun Jin, is struggling to recover its television ratings as the series approaches its final two episodes.
Despite early interest in the pairing of the two popular actors, the drama has recorded ratings in the 1% range for five consecutive episodes, raising questions about whether it can finish with an improvement.
According to Nielsen Korea, A Love Other Than Yours premiered on September 12 with a nationwide rating of 2.6%. Its second episode rose to 2.8%, setting the drama's highest rating so far.
The series maintained ratings above 2% during its first few episodes, but viewership gradually declined.
Episode 8, which aired on October 11, recorded 1.9%, marking the beginning of its current streak below 2%.
Episodes 9, 10, and 11 each recorded 1.8%, while the latest episode, aired on October 25, saw a slight increase to 1.9%.
Although the small improvement ended the series' three-episode run at 1.8%, the drama has now remained below 2% for five straight episodes.
The declining ratings have come alongside mixed reactions to the drama's storyline.
In particular, a scene in episode 10 drew criticism after Ahn Eun Jin's character, Lee Mi Do, threatened another character with sexual harassment during an argument.
Some viewers interpreted the dialogue as an attempt to stop a confrontation, while others criticized the use of such language in the scene.
The drama's portrayal of complicated romantic relationships has also received divided reactions, with some viewers finding it difficult to connect with the characters' decisions.
However, Seo Kang Joon and Ahn Eun Jin have continued to receive positive comments for their performances despite the criticism surrounding the story.
Seo Kang Joon has been praised for his careful portrayal of Namgoong Ho, while Ahn Eun Jin has drawn attention for expressing Lee Mi Do's complicated emotions.
A Love Other Than Yours follows a couple who have been together for 10 years and decide to temporarily separate before marriage, allowing each other to experience relationships with other people for one month.
With only two episodes remaining, attention is now focused on whether the drama can recover from its ratings slump and end on a stronger note.
The final two episodes of A Love Other Than Yours will air on October 31 and November 1 at 9:20 PM KST on KBS2. The series is also available internationally through Amazon Prime Video.
