Choi Min Sik has revealed that he actually keeps up with online comments and has seen the memes built around his famous movie lines and public image.

On August 30, the actor appeared on the YouTube channel Fairy Jaehyung, where he spoke about how internet users continue to turn moments from his past projects into memes.

During the conversation, Jung Jae Hyung mentioned comments left on the trailer for Choi Min Sik’s upcoming film The Intern and pointed out that the actor’s lines and expressions often become new online jokes.

Choi Min Sik responded playfully, “I should have filmed an extra one just for that.”

When Jung Jae Hyung told him that many internet users now see him as a “really cute uncle,” Choi Min Sik jokingly replied, “I should show them the scary side of me sometime.”

The veteran actor also gave a more serious answer when asked how he feels about scenes and dialogue from his older movies continuing to circulate online.

He described the situation as “a double-edged sword.”

Choi Min Sik explained, “From an actor’s perspective, it can be a disadvantage when an image from a previous work overlaps with the character you are currently playing.”

However, he also said the popularity of those memes can be viewed positively.

“If those lines continue to become memes and people still talk about them, it means they found the movies I appeared in entertaining and memorable. I can’t criticize them for that,” he said.

Choi Min Sik also discussed how his public image became noticeably more friendly and playful during promotional events for the film Exhuma.

He recalled fans bringing unusual items and asking him to wear them while taking photos together. After seeing theaters packed with audiences again following the difficult pandemic period, he said he became especially excited and interacted freely with moviegoers.

Looking back on those events, Choi Min Sik said, “Doesn’t it feel like a festival?”

His comments showed that while the actor understands the possible downside of having old characters follow him online, he also appreciates that audiences continue to remember and enjoy his performances.

Choi Min Sik will next return to theaters in The Intern, which is scheduled to open on September 16.
