DAY6’s Dowoon is gaining attention for his thoughtful personality on producer Na Young Suk’s new variety show, while the program has also climbed to No. 1 on Netflix Korea.
Netflix variety show Why on Earth Do We Hike? began streaming on August 18 and follows Car, the Garden, DAY6’s Dowoon, Lee Chae Min, and ALLDAY PROJECT’s Tarzzan as they take on winter mountain hiking despite having little interest in the activity before joining the show.
Among the cast, Dowoon has earned the nickname “Yoon Help” for repeatedly taking care of both his fellow members and the production staff during difficult hikes.
He has been seen preparing snacks and water for the group and paying attention to what the crew may need while filming in demanding conditions.
One moment especially caught viewers’ attention after Dowoon learned that an audio staff member was carrying equipment weighing around 25 kilograms.
Dowoon reportedly used his own money to order a walking support device for the staff member.
He casually explained, “You don’t have to use it if you don’t like it. I already ordered it. I wanted to give it to the audio director.”
His simple but considerate gesture drew positive reactions from viewers and became one of the moments highlighting his gentle personality on the show.
The series has also been performing strongly on Netflix. As of August 23, Why on Earth Do We Hike? reached No. 1 on Netflix Korea’s Top 10 series ranking.
The variety show continues to follow the cast through different mountain challenges and missions, with new episodes also taking the group to Tarzzan’s hometown of Ulsan.
Producer Park Hyun Yong said one of the show’s main points is watching how differently each member reacts to hiking over time, with some beginning to understand its appeal while others may dislike it even more.
With Dowoon’s caring moments drawing attention and the show reaching the top of Netflix Korea’s rankings, Why on Earth Do We Hike? is building strong early interest among viewers.
