DAY6 member Young K revealed that he lost around 10 kilograms while preparing for his comeback.
Young K appeared on the July 31 episode of KBS2’s The Seasons: Sung Si Kyung’s Eardrum Boyfriend, where he performed The Season That Returned.
He explained that the song was used as an original soundtrack for the drama Brave New World and holds special meaning because of his friendship with lead actor Heo Nam Jun.
Young K said, “Nam Jun is the same age as me and is my friend. He contacted me personally and asked me to sing it, so the collaboration happened.”
During the conversation, Young K also spoke about working with Shin Dong Yup on tvN’s Amazing Saturday.
He shared, “It has been about five months. He takes very good care of me, and we usually have a team dinner. It is also very fun.”
Sung Si Kyung jokingly replied, “Shin Dong Yup works for those gatherings. We have filmed 18 episodes, and I think we have had around 18 team dinners. Most of my appearance fee goes toward those dinners.”
The conversation then turned to Young K’s reputation as a major food lover. He surprised the audience by revealing how much he could eat in one sitting.
Young K said, “I really enjoy eating. I have eaten up to 49 lamb skewers, 60 dumplings, around eight servings of beef, seven packs of instant noodles, and six hamburgers as a light meal during a schedule.”
Sung Si Kyung expressed surprise that Young K remained slim despite his large appetite.
Young K explained that he did not exercise during his recent weight loss and instead reduced the amount of food he ate.
He said, “I wanted to look good for the comeback, so I lost around 10 kilograms. I followed what I called a stomach diet. I believed that eating less would help reduce how much I could eat.”
He continued, “For four or five months, I ate one meal a day and only one serving. The timing did not matter. For me, eating one serving was enough to lose weight.”
Young K added that he tried to choose meals containing carbohydrates and protein, although he jokingly mentioned chicken as one of his usual choices.
The singer also recalled meeting J.Y. Park after completing his diet.
Young K said, “I had worked hard to lose weight, but when I saw him, he looked even thinner than I did. I told him that seeing him made my efforts feel less impressive, and he told me that I had also done well.”
His comments were shared as his personal experience while preparing for a comeback and not as general health advice.
