BTS is proving once again that their global influence goes far beyond music charts.

According to a report by the LA Times, Mexico City has become one of the strongest BTS fan bases in the world. The city is reportedly the No. 1 city for BTS streaming on Spotify, showing just how deep the group’s popularity runs in Mexico.

The passion was clear when BTS appeared at Mexico’s National Palace on May 6. Around 50,000 people reportedly filled the square within just 5 hours, creating a scene that caught the attention of media in Mexico, the United States, and other countries.

The demand for BTS’ Mexico concerts was even bigger. More than 1 million fans reportedly tried to buy tickets for the group’s 3 concerts, but many were unable to get one.

The situation became so intense that Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum even sent a diplomatic letter to the Korean president asking for additional shows. However, the request was politely declined due to BTS’ world tour schedule.

Resale ticket prices also became a major issue, reportedly rising to about 3,500 dollars per ticket. This was nearly 60 times higher than the original ticket price, which was said to be around 50,000 to 60,000 won.

Even fans who could not enter the concert still showed up outside the venue. One 22 year old fan, Rosa Gabriela Hernandez Flores, traveled from Sinaloa and stayed near the concert area after seeing the high resale prices.

She found a spot where she could hear the music and see part of the big screen, then sang along with other fans to songs like “MIC Drop” and “SWIM.”

She shared, “I cried, laughed, and screamed. Those few minutes felt like magic.”

Other scenes around the venue also showed the strong love of fans. Some climbed nearby trees to try to see inside, while others danced outside the concert area.

A 12 year old fan named Zoe Castro, who said she had loved BTS since she was 6, was also seen still searching for tickets on her phone.

President Sheinbaum also personally told BTS, “You must come back next year.” She later announced at a press conference that BTS is expected to return to Mexico in 2027.

With 1 million fans trying for tickets, a president asking for more shows, and fans gathering outside just to hear the music, BTS’ Mexico stop became more than a concert. It became another example of how K pop has grown into a global cultural force.
