A recent report by BBC has sparked discussion about BTS and their musical direction, questioning whether the group is moving away from their K-pop identity as they expand globally.
According to the report, BTS is facing a dilemma as they aim for a wider international audience, with some analysis suggesting their music is becoming more distant from traditional K-pop style.
The discussion focused on their 5th full album ‘Arirang’, where certain choices drew mixed reactions from fans.
One track included elements of the traditional Korean folk song “Arirang”, which led to debate, while the title track “Swim,” performed بالكامل in English, was also criticized by some listeners.
BBC noted that some fans expressed concern, saying the group’s strategy “targeting the Western market” may be “weakening their musical identity.”
However, the report also highlighted that BTS is currently balancing different aspects such as tradition and modern style, as well as artistic vision and global appeal.
Despite the debate, their achievements remain strong. BBC described their new ‘Arirang’ world tour as “the largest in K-pop history,” showing their continued global impact.
HYBE chairman Bang Si Hyuk also addressed the changes, calling the album “BTS 2.0” and explaining, “This project is not just an extension, but a declaration of a new era,” emphasizing the group’s evolution and direction.
BTS is set to begin a large-scale world tour starting in Goyang, covering 34 cities with a total of 85 performances, further proving their strong presence worldwide.
