BTS has officially returned in explosive fashion, and their new album is already making history.

According to Hanteo Chart on March 21, BTS’s 5th full album ‘ARIRANG’ sold an incredible 3.98 million copies on its first day, immediately taking No. 1 on the daily album chart. The response was so massive that the album reportedly became a million seller in just about 10 minutes after its release on March 20 at 1 PM KST.

What makes the achievement even bigger is that ‘ARIRANG’ already surpassed BTS’s previous highest first week sales record of 3.37 million copies, set by ‘MAP OF THE SOUL : 7’, in just a single day. With several more days still left in the first week tracking period, attention is now on how much further the group’s new record could climb.

The comeback is also showing huge power globally. ‘ARIRANG’ reached No. 1 on iTunes Top Albums in 88 countries and regions, while the title track ‘SWIM’ hit No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs in 90 countries and regions, including major music markets such as the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France.

BTS is also dominating Korea’s domestic charts. ‘SWIM’ went straight to No. 1 on Melon and Bugs real time charts, and every track from the album entered Melon’s Top 100. As of the morning of March 21, ‘SWIM’ was still holding the top spot, while B side track ‘Body to Body’ rose to No. 2 on Melon Top 100, giving BTS a full lock on the top of the chart.

The momentum continued on video platforms as well. The ‘SWIM’ music video ranked No. 1 on trending music in 70 countries and regions, once again showing the scale of BTS’s global comeback power.

With nearly 4 million copies sold on day one, multiple No. 1 rankings across global and domestic charts, and a brand new personal sales record already broken, BTS is once again proving why their comeback is one of the biggest events in K pop right now.
