Netflix’s ‘Boyfriend on Demand’ is continuing to build strong momentum worldwide, and the creative team is now opening up about the series’ biggest talking points as its global success keeps growing.
According to Netflix Tudum’s Top 10 website, ‘Boyfriend on Demand’ ranked No. 4 in the Global Top 10 Non English Shows just three days after release.
The series also reached No. 1 in South Korea’s Top 10 series and entered the Top 10 charts in 34 countries, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil, and Chile, showing strong international interest.
The drama is also earning strong response beyond Netflix rankings. It recorded a 96% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes, while Good Data Corporation’s FUNdex ranked it No. 1 in TV OTT integrated drama buzz for the first week of March.
In cast buzz rankings, Jisoo took No. 1, while Seo In Guk placed No. 3, adding even more proof of the series’ growing impact.
As the show continues gaining attention, director Kim Jung Sik and writer Namgoong Do Young personally addressed the drama’s core message and some of the biggest viewer questions.
The director explained that the story was built around three characters who all make different choices in love, saying, “There is no single correct way to love.” He also shared that the series was meant to make viewers think, “What kind of love would I choose?”
Writer Namgoong Do Young said that while the drama begins with the unique idea of virtual reality romance, the heart of the story is much more emotional and grounded. She explained that it is ultimately about Mi Rae, an ordinary person who learns to overcome loneliness and fear and find the courage to love again.
The director also explained why the story’s emotional direction had to stay connected to reality, saying, “In virtual love, the other person can be made to fit you, but real love is not like that.”
He added that real love is about two people adjusting to each other little by little and exchanging real emotions, which he described as the true heart of the series.
One of the most talked about behind the scenes details involved Seo In Guk’s double role, with the director revealing that the team carefully separated the two characters through different filming seasons, overseas shoots, and even post production dialogue work to make each role feel more distinct. He also praised Seo In Guk for handling the challenge with detail and subtle emotion.
With strong global rankings, high buzz scores, and a wave of positive reactions for both Jisoo and Seo In Guk, ‘Boyfriend on Demand’ is continuing to prove it is one of the most talked about Korean Netflix releases right now.
