Former NCT member Taeil (Moon Tae Il) has submitted seven handwritten apology letters just before the court announces his final verdict in the ongoing sexual assault case.

According to reports, the Seoul High Court will deliver its final decision on October 17 regarding Taeil and two others charged with special quasi-rape under the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.

Earlier this year, Taeil was accused of sexually assaulting an intoxicated foreign woman along with two acquaintances in June 2024. While prosecutors initially sought a seven-year prison sentence, the first trial in July sentenced him to three years and six months in prison, along with 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program and a five-year employment ban in jobs involving children or teenagers.

During the appeal hearing, prosecutors maintained that the first sentence was too lenient, saying, “This case is serious. Even if an agreement was reached with the victim, the crime deserves a heavier punishment.”

Taeil’s legal team asked for leniency, explaining, “He regrets his actions and sincerely apologizes to the victim and the public for causing harm.” They also stated that the victim has accepted his apology, though she is still recovering.

His defense added that Taeil did not premeditate the crime, saying, “The incident occurred after they drank together. There was no plan or group chat suggesting intent.”

They highlighted Taeil’s previous good behavior, saying he worked diligently as a public figure, participated in charity and volunteer work, and received character petitions from acquaintances. They also revealed that his mother quit her job due to the controversy and that Taeil left NCT and terminated his contract, now working part-time to support himself.

In his final statement, Taeil said, “I admit all my wrongdoings and deeply repent. I know nothing I say can heal the victim’s pain, but I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart.”

He continued, “I will live with repentance for the rest of my life. I’ve realized how much damage I caused the victim and my family. I will never repeat such a mistake and will live honestly.”

Before the verdict, Taeil reportedly submitted seven handwritten apology letters to the court, expressing remorse for his actions. The final sentencing in his appeal trial will be announced on October 17.
